This community is one of three main areas that local people use to describe the Town of Shawangunk. The other two are Wallkill and Pine Bush. Walker Valley is found along NY 52. This is where the land starts to go uphill towards the Shawangunk Ridge.

History of Walker Valley
This community had a different name a long time ago. Until 1862, it was called "Jamesburgh." After that year, its name was changed to Walker Valley, which is what we know it as today.

Walker Valley is located at coordinates 41°38′32″N 74°22′21″W / 41.64222°N 74.37250°W. It covers a total area of about 8.41 square kilometers (3.25 square miles). Most of this area is land, with a very small part being water.
The community is situated where NY Route 52 begins to climb the eastern side of the Shawangunk Ridge. It is also close to the border of Sullivan County.
