Watch Croft (which means Carnonbigh in Cornish) is a special hill in Cornwall, UK. It stands tall at 252 meters (about 827 feet) and looks out over the beautiful north coast. It's known as a "Marilyn" because it rises very sharply from the land around it.

Watch Croft: A Special Cornish Hill

Watch Croft is one of only five "Marilyns" in all of Cornwall. A Marilyn is a hill that rises at least 150 meters (about 492 feet) from the land around it. This makes it stand out a lot! The other Marilyns in Cornwall are Brown Willy, Kit Hill, Hensbarrow Beacon, and Carnmenellis. Watch Croft is also the highest point in an area called West Penwith.

Where is Watch Croft Located?

Watch Croft is found in a very scenic part of Cornwall called the White Downs. This area is so beautiful that it's protected as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It's also part of the St Just Mining District, which is a World Heritage Site. This means it's a place with important history and natural beauty.

The hill is about 7 kilometers (4.3 miles) northwest of Penzance. It's also about 7.5 kilometers (4.7 miles) northeast of St. Just and only about a kilometer (0.6 miles) from the northern coastline of Cornwall.

What Can You See from the Top?

The very top of Watch Croft is a rocky outcrop called a tor. From this high point, you can see amazing views! You can look across Mount's Bay all the way to the Lizard, which is the most southerly point of mainland Britain. To the south, you might spot the old Ding Dong Mine. And to the north, you can see Pendeen Watch, a famous lighthouse on the coast.
