Wayne Ernest Maunder (born December 19, 1937 – died November 11, 2018) was an actor from Canada who also became an American citizen. He was famous for starring in three different TV shows in the United States between 1967 and 1974.

Starring as Custer
From September to December 1967, Maunder played a 28-year-old George Armstrong Custer. This was for the TV series Custer. The show was about Custer's time in the American West.
Starring in Lancer
Maunder's next big series was Lancer. He starred alongside Andrew Duggan, James Stacy, and Paul Brinegar. Lancer aired from 1968 to 1970. It was also shown again in the summer of 1971.
Starring in Chase
Maunder's last regular TV series was Chase. This show was a drama about an undercover police team. It aired on NBC during the 1973–1974 TV season. Maunder played Sergeant Sam MacCray. His character worked with a police dog named "Fuzz."

Wayne Maunder was born in Four Falls, New Brunswick, Canada. When he was four years old, his family moved to Bangor, Maine. He grew up there with his four brothers and sisters. He always thought of Bangor as his hometown.
High School and Sports
Maunder finished high school at Bangor High School in 1957. While in school, he enjoyed playing both football and baseball.
Trying for Baseball
After high school, Wayne tried to become a professional baseball player. He had tryouts with teams like the Milwaukee Braves, San Francisco Giants, and Pittsburgh Pirates. However, he did not make it into Major League Baseball.
Maunder then spent a few years in the United States Naval Reserve. He went on a training trip on an aircraft carrier called the USS Leyte.
Studying Acting
Later, he studied English literature and drama at El Camino College Compton Center in California. He took part in an amateur play and decided he wanted to be an actor.
He then moved to Broadway in New York City. In 1961, he studied acting with Stella Adler during the day. At night, he worked as a waiter at Grand Central Station. He also acted in plays like Hamlet and Othello with the American Shakespeare Company.
In 1965, Maunder signed a contract with a management agency. This happened while he was acting in a play called The Knack.
First TV Appearance
Wayne Maunder first appeared on screen on February 4, 1967. He played Michael Duquesne in an episode of The Monroes. For this role, he was credited as James Wilder. After this, he decided to use his real name for his acting career.
Playing Scott Lancer
In the TV show Lancer, Wayne Maunder played Scott Lancer. Scott was a fictional character born in California. He grew up in Boston, Massachusetts, with his grandfather. Scott was a veteran of the Civil War. He had been a lieutenant in the cavalry. He also attended Harvard University.

Death
Wayne Maunder passed away suddenly on November 11, 2018. He was 80 years old. He had a history of heart disease.
