Wendy Moten (born November 22, 1964) is an American singer known for her soulful voice. She was born in Memphis and now lives in Nashville. Wendy has had a successful music career. This includes releasing her own albums and having hit songs around the world. She also has a second career as a touring musician.

When she was 56, Wendy competed on the American TV talent show The Voice. She finished as the runner-up, meaning she came in second place. This show helped her become much more well-known across the country. Wendy Moten is most famous for her song "Come In Out of the Rain." This song was a big hit in the UK, reaching number 8 on the charts in February 1994.

Early Life and Music Career

Wendy Moten grew up in Memphis, Tennessee. Her father was a pastor, and she began singing in her church choir when she was a child. She went to Overton High School in Memphis. There, she sang in the school choir.

At age 16, Wendy won a singing contest at the Mid-South Fair. She then got a job singing at a theme park. She later studied music business at the University of Memphis. A music promoter discovered her when he heard her singing for a commercial.

Wendy got her first big chance singing with Michael Bolton at a special concert. After signing with EMI, a record company, she released her first album in 1992. She also went on tour with Michael Bolton.

Her biggest hit song was "Come In Out of the Rain." In 1993, it reached number 55 on the main US music charts. It was also a top 5 hit on adult contemporary charts. The song became a Top 10 hit in the UK Singles Chart, reaching number 8 in 1994. Another song, "So Close to Love," did not chart in the US but reached number 35 in the UK.

Wendy also acted in an off-Broadway play called "Mama I Want to Sing." In 1994, she sang the song "Whatever You Imagine" for the children's movie The Pagemaster. Later in the 1990s, she started touring with famous singer Julio Iglesias. This lasted for 15 years. She said she traveled the world with him, singing in four languages. She performed for huge audiences.

From 2005 to 2018, Wendy sang backup vocals for Tim McGraw and Faith Hill on their tours. She also sang backup for Bonnie Tyler's 2013 album Rocks and Honey. From 2014 to 2016, she provided background vocals for Martina McBride. Wendy was also a harmony singer for Vince Gill and a member of Time Jumpers. In 2020, Vince Gill took her on tour as a featured singer.

The Voice Competition

In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic caused many music tours and live shows to stop. Wendy Moten felt her career was at a turning point. She was not sure if her work as a backup singer would continue.

When the chance to be on The Voice came up, Wendy thought it was a big risk. She had been a professional singer for over 30 years. She said it was tough to be in a situation where she needed people to vote for her. But she decided to take the chance.

Wendy competed in the 21st season of The Voice. She finished as the runner-up of the season. During the show, Wendy had an accident. She fell over a monitor and broke her elbow. Doctors told her she needed surgery. However, she decided to stay on the show for three more episodes. After the show, she had surgery to fix her elbow with titanium plates.

Since her time on The Voice, Wendy Moten has been working to restart her solo career. The show gave her a lot of public attention.
