Wendy Moten (born November 22, 1964) is an American singer. She is known for her amazing voice and for singing many types of music. These include jazz, R&B, and soul. Wendy was born in Memphis, Tennessee. She now lives in Nashville.
Wendy has had a long and successful music career. She has released several albums and had hit songs around the world. She also became a popular touring musician. At 56 years old, she joined the TV show The Voice. She finished as the runner-up, which helped her career grow even more. Her most famous song is "Come In Out of the Rain". It was a big hit in the UK in 1994.
Wendy Moten's Early Life and Career
Wendy's father was a pastor. She started singing in her church choir when she was a child. She went to Overton High School in Memphis. There, she sang in the Overton Choir.
When she was 16, Wendy won a singing contest at the Mid-South Fair. She then got a job singing at a theme park. She studied music business at Memphis State University. A music promoter named Dick Williams discovered her. He heard her singing for a commercial in a Memphis studio.
Wendy got her first big chance singing with Michael Bolton. This was at a special concert. In 1992, she signed with EMI records. She released her first album, called Wendy Moten. She then opened for Michael Bolton on his tour.
Her biggest hit song was "Come In Out of the Rain". It reached number 8 in the UK Singles Chart in 1994. It was also a top 5 hit on the adult contemporary charts in the U.S. Another song, "So Close to Love," reached number 35 in the UK. Wendy also acted in a play called "Mama I Want to Sing." She sang a song called "Whatever You Imagine" in the children's movie The Pagemaster in 1994.
In the late 1990s, Wendy started touring with Julio Iglesias. This was a famous singer. She toured with him for 15 years. She sang in four different languages. She traveled all over the world and sang for huge crowds.
From 2005 to 2018, Wendy sang backup vocals for Tim McGraw and Faith Hill. She also sang backup for Bonnie Tyler's album Rocks and Honey in 2013. From 2014 to 2016, she toured with Martina McBride. Wendy was also a harmony singer for Vince Gill. In 2020, Vince Gill asked her to be a featured singer on his tour.
Wendy Moten on The Voice
In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic stopped many live music shows. Wendy felt her career was at a turning point. She wasn't sure if her work as a backup singer would continue.
She decided to take a chance and join The Voice. Wendy said it was a hard choice. She had been a professional singer for over 30 years. Now, she was asking people to vote for her. But she decided to take the risk.
Wendy competed in the 21st season of The Voice. She finished as the runner-up. During the show, she had an accident. She fell over a monitor and broke her elbow. Doctors told her she needed surgery. But she kept performing for three more episodes. After the show, she had surgery to fix her elbow. In 2022, Wendy began working to restart her solo career. This was after getting a lot of attention from the show.
