A Football Star's Journey

Werner Kohlmeyer was born in the city of Kaiserslautern, Germany. He became well-known for his strong defense and amazing saves. He was especially good at blocking shots right on the goal line.

World Cup Hero

During the 1954 World Cup, Kohlmeyer showed off his skills. In a game against Yugoslavia, he bravely threw himself in front of many shots. This helped save the German goal multiple times. In the exciting 1954 FIFA World Cup Final, he successfully stopped a dangerous player named Zoltán Czibor.

Club Success

Fair Play on the Field

In one of his last games for Germany, Kohlmeyer played against the famous English player Stanley Matthews. This was in a friendly match at Wembley Stadium in 1954. Germany's coach, Sepp Herberger, really liked this fair attitude. He also valued Kohlmeyer's strong and reliable defense. Kohlmeyer continued to be a main player for Kaiserslautern until 1957. He passed away at the age of 49.
