Werrington is a neighborhood in the city of Peterborough, England. It is part of the county called Cambridgeshire. For voting, Werrington is split into two areas: North Werrington and South Werrington.
This area covers about 6 square kilometers. Around 14,800 people live here. Werrington used to be a small village. But in the mid-1900s, Peterborough grew bigger and included Werrington. It is now on the northern edge of the city. It is about 6.4 kilometers from the city center.
Werrington has two main parts. There is the old village area. This part is centered around a village green. Then there is the new Werrington area. This part has a small shopping center called the Werrington Centre. It has shops for everyday needs.

Shopping in Werrington
The Werrington Centre has several shops. You can find a Tesco store there. There are also smaller shops, like Age Concern. Many of these shops have changed since 2004. Bigger companies have bought out some of the local stores.
New homes are still being built in the northern part of Werrington. The shopping center was supposed to be redeveloped. However, Tesco stopped its plans. Now, many small shop units are empty or boarded up.
Fun Activities in Werrington
Werrington has hosted a summer carnival for many years. They also have a bonfire and fireworks show every year. This has been happening since the 1970s.
At the bonfire, two clay figures are set on fire. Volunteers from the local Scout and Guide groups make these figures. They work with Werrington Primary School to create them.
Sports Clubs
Werrington Village Cricket Club plays in local leagues. They play during the summer months. Their home games are held at the Campbell Drive sports fields nearby.
Werrington Badminton Club has about 100 members. Players range from beginners to county-level athletes. They play in tournaments around the city and county. The club also has two men's teams and one mixed team in the Hunts league.
Schools in Werrington
New Werrington has three schools. William Law and Welbourne are both primary schools. Ken Stimpson Academy is the only secondary school in the area.
Ken Stimpson Academy
Ken Stimpson Academy is a public secondary school. It first opened in 1982. The school has about 1,100 students. These students are in years 7 through to post-16 (Years 12 and 13). In 2004, the school became a specialist Business and Enterprise College.
Werrington Primary School
Werrington Primary School is the only school in the original village. It is often ranked among the top primary schools in Peterborough. The school started in the late 1800s. It was a Church of England school. The junior school moved to its current location in 1961. The infant school moved there in 1966. Now, the junior and infant schools are combined. They share the same management.
William Law C of E Primary School and Welbourne Primary School are the two other primary schools. They are located in the newer parts of Werrington, not in the old village.
