Who is Wesley Hunt?
Wesley Hunt's Early Life and School
Wesley Hunt grew up in Houston, Texas. His family had a history of serving in the military. After finishing high school at St. John's School, he went to the United States Military Academy. This school is also known as West Point.
At West Point, he earned a degree in leadership and management. He also studied mechanical engineering. He graduated in 2004. Two of his classmates from West Point also became U.S. Representatives: John James and Pat Ryan.
Wesley Hunt's Military Service
After college, Hunt joined the U.S. Army in 2004. He became a pilot and flew Apache helicopters. He was sent to serve in the Iraq War once. He also served twice in Saudi Arabia as a special officer who helped with diplomatic talks.
He left the army in 2012. At that time, he held the rank of Captain. After his military service, he went to Cornell University. There, he earned three different master's degrees.

Running for Congress in 2020
In 2020, Wesley Hunt ran to represent Texas's 7th congressional district. He won the Republican primary election. This meant he was chosen by his party to be their main candidate. However, he lost the main election to the person who was already in office, Lizzie Fletcher, a Democrat.
Running for Congress in 2022
After new district maps were drawn, Hunt decided to run for the new Texas's 38th congressional district. This new district was created to be strongly Republican. Many people believed it was made specifically for him.
He won the Republican primary election for this new district. He then won the general election on November 8, 2022. He defeated the Democratic candidate, Duncan Klussmann, by a large margin.
What Wesley Hunt Does in Congress
Wesley Hunt started his term as a U.S. Representative in January 2023. When he first joined Congress, he supported Kevin McCarthy to become the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives. The Speaker is the leader of the House.
Hunt serves on several important committees in the House:
