West Launceston is a friendly neighborhood, or "locality," located in Tasmania, Australia. It's part of the Launceston area, which is a local government area (LGA). Think of an LGA as a special region managed by its own council. West Launceston is about 3 kilometers (about 2 miles) southwest of the main city of Launceston.
In 2016, a count of people called a "census" showed that 4,212 people lived in West Launceston. This suburb is close to the main business area of Launceston, known as the Central Business District (CBD). It's also very near the famous Cataract Gorge, a beautiful natural area.
West Launceston is a diverse place. About 2% of the people living there are Indigenous, meaning they are the original inhabitants of Australia.
