Summerhill's History
Summerhill became an official place name in 1963. Before that, there was a bit of a mix-up with its name.
How Summerhill Got Its Name
In 1957, the area was officially named "Summerdale." But this was a mistake! People had called it "Summerhill" for almost 100 years before that. So, in 1963, the name was officially changed back to "Summerhill." Even with the name change, the local school is still called Summerdale Primary School.
Summerhill's Location
The South Esk River forms the border on the north-western side of Summerhill. This means the river runs along that edge of the suburb.
Getting Around Summerhill
A major road called National Route 1, also known as the Midland Highway, runs to the east of Summerhill. Many smaller roads connect from this highway into the suburb, making it easy to get in and out.
