The Meander Valley Council was created on April 2, 1993. Before that, there were two separate areas called Deloraine and Westbury. They joined together to form the single Meander Valley Council. This area is known for its farms and is quite large.

The Meander Valley area includes many different towns and places. Some of these are Bracknell, Carrick, Chudleigh, Hagley, Meander, and Whitemore. You can also find Mole Creek, Westbury, Deloraine, Elizabeth Town, Caveside, Exton, and Travellers Rest.
The council area also reaches into the outer western parts of Launceston. This includes places like Blackstone Heights and Prospect Vale. The town of Hadspen is also part of this region. A big part of the Great Western Tiers mountain range is located within the Meander Valley area.
