Travellers Rest is a small, quiet area in Tasmania, Australia. It's a mix of country and homes, located near the bigger city of Launceston. About 305 people lived there in 2016. It's about 24 kilometers (15 miles) east of a town called Westbury.
History
Travellers Rest has been officially recognized as a place for a long time. In the 1800s, not many people lived here.
In 1833, a hotel was built by G & T Burnett. It was called the Travellers Rest Hotel. It stood at a spot where roads split off towards Longford and Hadspen.
Sadly, the hotel burned down in March 1930. This happened because an employee was filling a motorcycle with fuel while holding a lit lantern. By 1941, only one wall of the old hotel was left. The last parts of the ruins were finally removed in 1990. This was done to make way for the Bass Highway.
Geography
The South Esk River forms the border on the north-western side of Travellers Rest.
