Prospect Vale is a suburb in Tasmania, Australia. It is mostly a residential area with some rural parts. This suburb is located about 7 kilometers (4.3 miles) southwest of the city of Launceston.

In 2016, a census showed that 5067 people lived in Prospect Vale. It is a small part of the larger Launceston area. Prospect Vale has its own shopping center called Prospect Vale Marketplace. This center includes a Woolworths supermarket. There is also a small area for businesses and factories. For sports, the suburb has the St Patrick's Old Collegians Football Club Oval. This club plays in the Northern Tasmania Football Association.

History of Prospect Vale

Prospect Vale became an official locality in 1963. Before that, European settlers used the land for farming. They raised cattle and horses here. The area was originally part of the nearby suburb of Prospect. Prospect was made an official suburb in 1958.

Early Schools in the Area

The first school in the area was Prospect Primary School. This school is now called Summerdale Primary School. It is located in the suburb of Summerhill. Today, Prospect Vale has two schools. One is the public Prospect High School. The other is a private Catholic school called St. Patricks College.

St Patrick's College moved to its current location in the late 1950s. The site used to have a large building called the Rising Sun Hotel. New school buildings were built around 1961. They were made to hold about 400 students.
