Youngtown is a suburb located in Tasmania, Australia. It is a residential area found about 6 kilometers (about 3.7 miles) south-east of the city of Launceston. In 2016, a census showed that 291 people lived in the state suburb of Youngtown. It is known as one of Launceston's southern suburbs.
Youngtown is home to the Youngtown Oval, a playing field for Australian rules football. This is where the South Launceston Football Club plays its home games. Youngtown Primary School, a local school for children, is also located in the suburb.

Youngtown officially became a recognized locality in 1963. This means it was formally named and defined as a specific area.
Who Was Youngtown Named After?
The suburb was named after Henry Young. He was the very first governor of Tasmania. Governors are important leaders who represent the government in a region.
Franklin Village: A Nearby Historic Place
Youngtown also includes a smaller area called Franklin Village. This village was first set up in 1837. Many of its old buildings are now gone, and the area has become part of Youngtown. However, two historic buildings still remain. These are Franklin House, built in 1838, and St James Anglican Church, built in 1845.

Main Roads and Boundaries
The Midland Highway is a major road that forms the south-western edge of Youngtown. This highway is also known as National Route 1. The Western Railway Line runs along much of the eastern side of the suburb.

Route C402, also called Hobart Road, goes through Youngtown from north to south. Another road, Route C411 (Relbia Road), starts where it meets C402 and then quickly heads out to the south-east.
