History of West Maka Ska
For a long time, until about the 1910s, West Maka Ska was mostly farmland. There were a few large grain silos near the railroad tracks. These tracks led into Downtown Minneapolis. Over time, the area grew and changed.
In 2020, the people living in the neighborhood voted for a name change. They decided to change the name from West Calhoun to West Maka Ska. This change happened after Bde Maka Ska lake also changed its name from Lake Calhoun.
