The town of Westfield was started in 1780. It was named after William West. He was a general and politician from Rhode Island. William West helped Vermont become a state.

Westfield is also home to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Abbey. This is a special place where a group of women called Benedictine nuns live. They follow a quiet, prayerful way of life.
