The Wilmington CDP covers a large area in the middle of the Town of Wilmington. It includes the main hamlet of Wilmington. It also stretches west to include the small community of North Pole. To the east, it reaches Hardy Road, and to the south, Fox Farm Road.
Rivers and Roads
The West Branch of the Ausable River flows through the center of Wilmington. It starts in the southwest and moves towards the northeast.
Two important roads run through Wilmington. New York State Route 86 goes through the middle of the community. If you head southwest on this road, you will reach Lake Placid in about 12 miles (19 km). Going east for about 5 miles (8 km) will take you to Jay.
Another road, New York State Route 431, starts near Route 86 in Wilmington. This road heads west for about 8 miles (13 km). It takes you almost to the very top of Whiteface Mountain, a famous peak in the area.
