The Wilshire Regent: A Landmark Building
The Wilshire Regent is a well-known residential building. It offers many services to the people who live there. It is a great example of modern building design from the 1960s.
How the Wilshire Regent Started
The Wilshire Regent was built in 1963. When it was first finished, it was one of the very first big buildings in the Wilshire Corridor. It was also the tallest building in its area at that time. In fact, it was the fifth tallest building in all of Los Angeles!
The building was originally set up as a "co-op." This means that instead of owning an apartment directly, people owned shares in the company that owned the building. This gave them the right to live in a specific unit.
Amazing Views from the Top
When the Wilshire Regent was new, it offered incredible views from its apartments. People could see the rolling hills of Bel Air. They could also see the city skylines of Century City, Beverly Hills, and Downtown Los Angeles. The campus of UCLA was also visible.
Many apartments even had views of the Pacific Ocean. Over the years, some new buildings have been built nearby. These new buildings have blocked some of the ocean views.
The Wilshire Regent is located right across the street from two important places: the Sephardic Temple Tifereth Israel and the Westwood United Methodist Church.
