A Look Back in Time

Wilsonton Heights gets its name from James T. Wilson. He was a businessman from Toowoomba a long time ago. He was involved with the Toowoomba Agricultural Society. In 1878, he tried to become a member of the Queensland Parliament but was not successful.

The suburb of Wilsonton Heights was officially created in 2006. Before that, it was part of the nearby suburb of Wilsonton.

Wilsonton State High School

The Wilsonton campus of Toowoomba State High School first opened in 1998. It was the fourth high school campus for young people in Toowoomba. In 2015, about 840 students from Years 7 to 12 attended this campus.

On August 9, 2016, the Education Minister, Kate Jones, announced that this campus would become its own separate school. The new Wilsonton State High School officially opened on January 23, 2017. The community helped choose the new name for the school.

Today, Wilsonton State High School is a government school for students in Years 7 to 12. It is located at 275 North Street (27°32′15″S 151°55′27″E / 27.5376°S 151.9243°E / -27.5376; 151.9243 (Wilsonton State High School)). In 2017, the school had 678 students and many dedicated teachers and staff. It also has a special program for students who need extra support.
