Exploring Winfield Township's Location
Winfield Township is in the northwestern part of Montcalm County. To its north is Mecosta County. A main road, M-46, goes right through the middle of the township. This road connects to Lakeview to the east and U.S. Route 131 near Howard City to the west.
Land and Water Areas
The township covers about 36.2 square miles (93.8 square kilometers) in total. Most of this area, about 35.4 square miles (91.7 square kilometers), is land. The rest, about 0.8 square miles (2.1 square kilometers), is water. This means about 2.17% of the township is covered by water.
Water from the township flows west into the Little Muskegon River. One important stream that crosses the middle of the township is called Tamarack Creek.

Winfield Township is home to a few smaller communities.
Amble Community
Amble is a small, unofficial community located right on M-46. It was once a station on the Pere Marquette Railroad. The community was officially mapped out on July 8, 1886. Amble even had its own post office from 1887 until 1953. It was named after Rev. Ole Amble, a minister from the Danish Lutheran Church.
Decora Community
Decora was another small community in Winfield Township. It had a post office for a short time, from 1879 to 1880.
