History of Lakeview Village
Lakeview was first settled in 1858. A man named Albert S. French, who came from New York, officially planned out the village in 1867. Before that, the area was a camp site for Native American people.
French chose the name "Lakeview" because the village is right next to Tamarack Lake. A post office opened in Lakeview on October 7, 1867, with Hiram S. Barton as the first postmaster. By 1879, Lakeview became a stop on the Chicago, Saginaw and Canada Railroad, which helped the village grow.
