Wing Wah (Chinese: 榮華) is a famous company from Hong Kong. It runs many restaurants and makes delicious food. The company is officially called Wing Wah Food Manufactory Limited (榮華食品製造業有限公司).
Wing Wah is super well-known for its amazing mooncakes. But they also make other tasty treats like Chinese sausage, different kinds of cakes, and special teas.
The Story of Wing Wah
How It All Started
Wing Wah began its journey in 1950. Two people, Lau Pui Ling and Chiu Lut-sau, started the company. Their first Wing Wah restaurant opened in a four-story building in Yuen Long. This building also had a shop where they sold their famous mooncakes.
In 1962, the business became a formal company. A year later, in 1963, they created a new kind of mooncake. This one was made with white lotus paste, which became very popular!
Growing Bigger
Wing Wah kept growing over the years. In 1967, they opened another branch in Wanchai. Then, in 1975, they opened an even bigger restaurant in Yuen Long.
During the 1990s, Wing Wah built its own special building called the Wing Wah Centre. This was in their home area of Yuen Long. They also opened shops in busy places like the Hong Kong International Airport. They even have a fun tea museum at Ngong Ping on Lantau island!
How Wing Wah Grew
Making More Food
In the 1960s, Wing Wah focused a lot on making baked goods. They set up a factory in Hong Kong. They started using machines to make their products even better. This helped them improve the quality of their food.
Reaching New Places
By the 1970s, Wing Wah opened its own stores in many parts of Hong Kong. You could find their shops on Hong Kong Island, in Kowloon, and in the New Territories.
They also started selling their mooncakes to other countries. Wing Wah mooncakes were sold in over 100 big cities around the world! This included places like mainland China, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and other countries in Southeast Asia.
In the 1980s, Wing Wah started to focus more on the market in China. Today, their mooncakes have traveled far, even reaching places like Inner Mongolia and Harbin.
In the late 1990s, Wing Wah was the first Chinese cake shop to open stores at the Hong Kong International Airport.
