Winka Dubbeldam was born in the Netherlands in 1966. She first studied architecture in Rotterdam, where she earned her Master of Architecture degree in 1990. She then moved to New York in 1990. There, she studied architecture at Columbia University. This was a time when using computers in architecture was just beginning. She earned another Master of Architecture degree in 1992.

From 1992 to 1994, she worked with another architect, Peter Eisenman. In 1994, she opened her own company, Archi-Tectonics, in New York. Since then, she has been designing buildings for homes and businesses. Winka Dubbeldam is known for her unique style. She lives in a house with black walls, which she calls "a little experiment."

Winka Dubbeldam also designed a special exhibit for the National Building Museum in 2004. This exhibit showed different ways to use materials like bricks and concrete. She created a "fluid concrete gorge," which looked like a natural canyon. She used advanced computer analysis to make the concrete shapes. Speakers above the exhibit made sounds that bounced off the surfaces, creating a unique "sound garden."

Her company has also created large plans for areas like the 116-acre 2022 Asian Games Park in Hangzhou, China.
