Woodlawn's Past: A Look at Its History

Around 1770, a special agreement called the Treaty of Lochaber was made. This treaty was between a British representative, John Stuart, and the Cherokee people. It made the land in Woodlawn available for new settlers. The first James Wood left his land to his wife, Mary. She then passed it on to her grandsons. It's believed that none of the Wood family actually lived in Woodlawn themselves.
