History of Woodson
When Woodson Was Founded
Woodson was first planned out on May 2, 1859. It officially became a village on April 9, 1894. The village is named after a person called Judge David M. Woodson.

Geographical Features of Woodson
Woodson is found south of Lake Jacksonville. It is also south of two major roads, U.S. Route 36 and Interstate 72.
The village is mostly on the east side of State Highway 267. This highway goes north about 7 miles to Jacksonville. Jacksonville is the main town, or county seat, of Morgan County. The highway also goes south about 20 miles to Greenfield.
Land Area and Waterways
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Woodson covers a total area of about 0.39 square miles (1.02 square kilometers). All of this area is land.
A stream called Spoon Creek runs along the northern edge of the village. This creek flows west towards Sandy Creek. Sandy Creek then flows southwest into the Illinois River.
