Xaver Schlager (born 28 September 1997) is an Austrian footballer. He plays as a central midfielder for the Bundesliga club RB Leipzig. He also plays for the Austria national team.

Club Career
Starting at Red Bull Salzburg
Xaver Schlager began his football journey at a young age. After playing for a local youth team, SC St. Valentin, he joined the FC Red Bull Salzburg Academy in 2011. He played for all the different age groups there.
In 2015, Schlager moved to FC Liefering, which is a team connected to FC Red Bull Salzburg. It helps young players get ready for the main team.
During the 2017–18 season, Salzburg had a very successful time in Europe. They finished first in their Europa League group. They then beat strong teams like Real Sociedad and Borussia Dortmund. This helped them reach the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa League for the first time ever. On May 3, 2018, he played in the semi-final match. However, Marseille won the game and went to the final.
Moving to VfL Wolfsburg
On June 26, 2019, Schlager signed with VfL Wolfsburg, another club in Germany's top league, the Bundesliga. While playing for Wolfsburg, Schlager appeared in 81 matches across all competitions. This included 69 games in the Bundesliga.
He missed 20 league matches in his last season due to an injury. Even with the injury, he was still a very active player on the field.
Playing for RB Leipzig
On June 17, 2022, Schlager joined RB Leipzig, which is also a Bundesliga club. Leipzig signed him after using a special part of his contract with Wolfsburg. He signed a contract that will keep him with Leipzig until 2026.
Schlager helped Leipzig win two important trophies in 2023. They won the German Cup and the German Super Cup. He started the German Super Cup final and came on as a substitute in the German Cup final.
In May 2024, Schlager got injured during a game against Hoffenheim. Tests showed that he had torn a ligament in his knee. He had surgery and unfortunately missed the European Championship that summer.
International Career
On March 23, 2018, Xaver Schlager played his first game for the Austrian senior squad. It was a friendly match against Slovenia, which Austria won 3–0. Later that year, on September 18, he scored his first goal for Austria. This happened in a 2018–19 UEFA Nations League match against Northern Ireland.
