Xaver Schlager (born 28 September 1997) is an Austrian footballer. He plays as a central midfielder for the German club RB Leipzig. He also plays for the Austrian national team.

Club Career Highlights
Xaver Schlager started his football journey in Austria. He played for youth teams before joining bigger clubs.
Playing for Red Bull Salzburg
Xaver Schlager joined the FC Red Bull Salzburg Academy in 2011. He played for all their youth teams. In 2015, he moved to FC Liefering, which is a team that helps young players get ready for Red Bull Salzburg.
During the 2017–18 season, Salzburg had a fantastic time in a European competition called the UEFA Europa League. They reached the semi-finals, which was their best result ever in that tournament. Xaver was part of the team that played in the semi-finals on May 3, 2018.
Time at VfL Wolfsburg
On June 26, 2019, Schlager moved to Germany to play for Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg. He played in 81 matches for Wolfsburg across all competitions. This included 69 games in the Bundesliga, which is Germany's top football league.
He faced some injuries during his last season with Wolfsburg. Even with injuries, he was known for putting a lot of pressure on opposing teams.
Joining RB Leipzig
On June 17, 2022, Xaver Schlager joined RB Leipzig. This club is also in the Bundesliga, and they activated a special part of his contract to sign him. He signed a contract to stay with Leipzig until 2026.
Schlager helped RB Leipzig win some important trophies. He helped them win the German Cup in 2023. He also helped them win the German Super Cup in 2023, even starting in that final match.
In May 2024, Xaver Schlager got injured while playing against Hoffenheim. Tests showed he had torn his ACL (a knee ligament). He had surgery and unfortunately missed the European Championship that summer.
International Career
Xaver Schlager made his first appearance for the Austrian senior squad on March 23, 2018. This was in a friendly game where Austria won 3–0 against Slovenia.
Later that year, on September 18, he scored his first goal for Austria. This happened in a 2018–19 UEFA Nations League match against Northern Ireland.
