Xavier Oyekola Adibi (born October 18, 1984) is an American football coach and former player. He is currently an associate linebackers coach at Virginia Tech. Before that, he was the defensive coordinator at Texas A&M University–Commerce.

Xavier played college football at Virginia Tech. He was chosen by the Houston Texans in the fourth round of the 2008 NFL draft. He played professionally as a linebacker in the National Football League (NFL) for several teams. These included the Texans (2008–2010), Minnesota Vikings (2011), Chicago Bears (2012), and Tennessee Titans (2012). In 2021, he was added to the Virginia Tech Sports Hall of Fame.

Early Life and High School Football

Xavier Adibi grew up in Hampton, Virginia. He went to Phoebus High School and played high school football there. He graduated in 2003.

He helped his high school team, the Phoebus Phantoms, win their first state championship. During his senior year, the Phantoms had a perfect season, winning their second state championship in a row. In the 2002 state football game, Xavier played fullback. He ran for 155 yards and scored four touchdowns. His future college teammate, D. J. Parker, was the team's quarterback.

After high school, Xavier was chosen to play in the 2003 U.S. Army All-American Bowl. This game features some of the best high school football players in the country.

College Football Career

Xavier Adibi played college football at Virginia Tech. He was a very successful player there. In 2007, he was named a first-team All-American. This means he was considered one of the best college football players in the whole country. He also earned first-team All-ACC honors in 2007, after being named second-team All-ACC in 2006. The ACC is the Atlantic Coast Conference, a group of colleges that play sports against each other.

In 2004, as a redshirt freshman, Xavier was a backup player. A redshirt freshman is a second-year student who did not play in their first year. This allows them to practice with the team and gain experience without using up a year of their playing eligibility.

He got hurt in the first game against USC. But he came back to play in a game against Georgia Tech. In that game, Xavier played incredibly well. He made eight tackles, including two sacks. A sack is when a defensive player tackles the opposing team's quarterback behind the line of scrimmage. He made a key sack that helped Virginia Tech win the game.

Before the 2005 season, Xavier earned a starting spot as an inside linebacker.

In 2006, Xavier was second on his team with 82 tackles. After a game where Virginia Tech shut out Virginia 17-0, he was named the ACC defensive lineman of the week. In that game, he forced a fumble, which helped his team score the winning touchdown.

In 2007, Xavier led the Hokies with 115 tackles in 14 games. He also had two interceptions.

Professional Football Career

The Houston Texans chose Xavier Adibi in the fourth round of the 2008 NFL draft. The NFL draft is where professional football teams pick college players to join their teams.

On September 5, 2011, the Minnesota Vikings picked him up. This means they added him to their team after he was released by the Texans.

On August 11, 2012, Xavier signed with the Chicago Bears. However, he was released by the Bears on August 31, 2012.

Later that year, on October 24, 2012, the Tennessee Titans signed Xavier Adibi.
