Bertha Xóchitl Gálvez Ruiz (born 22 February 1963) is a Mexican politician and businesswoman. She has held important roles in government. From 2015 to 2018, she was the mayor of Miguel Hidalgo, a part of Mexico City. Later, from 2018 to 2023, she served as a senator in the Mexican Congress. As a senator, she worked with the National Action Party. She studied computer engineering at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). In 2024, she was a candidate for president of Mexico.

Early Life and Education
Xóchitl Gálvez was born on February 22, 1963. Her hometown is Tepatepec, in the state of Hidalgo, Mexico. Her father was from the Otomi people, and her mother also had some Otomi family.
When she was a child, Xóchitl helped her family. She sold desserts at the local market. This helped her pay for her education and support her family. Later, she moved to Mexico City to go to college. She studied computer engineering at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). While studying, she worked as a telephonist and later helped at the engineering school's computer center.
After college, she worked as a programmer. She also became a systems analyst at the National Institute of Geography and Statistics (INEGI). She was also in charge of telecommunications at the World Trade Center Mexico City.
From 2000 to 2006, she led the National Institute of Indigenous Peoples. This was during the time Vicente Fox was president.
Helping Others and Business Success
In 1992, Xóchitl Gálvez started her own company called High Tech Services. This company created technology projects. These projects helped design smart buildings and save energy. They also worked on security and telecommunications. She also founded OMEI, another company that managed smart buildings.
She has received several awards for her work. These include the Sé Líder Foundation award and the Zazil award. She also got the "Commitment to Others" recognition. In 1999, the World Economic Forum in Switzerland named her one of the "100 Global Leaders of the World's Future." The magazine Business Week also called her one of the "25 Latin American's New Business Elite" in 2000.
With money from her businesses, she started the Porvenir Foundation in 1995. This foundation helps fight child malnutrition. It also supports women in indigenous areas. The foundation also works on improving water quality in her home region, the Mezquital Valley.
Political Career
Serving as Mayor
In 2015, Xóchitl Gálvez ran for mayor of the Miguel Hidalgo borough in Mexico City. She was the candidate for the National Action Party. She won the election with 32% of the votes. She served as mayor from October 1, 2015, to March 15, 2018.
Becoming a Senator
In the 2018 elections, Xóchitl Gálvez ran for a seat in the Senate for Mexico City. She did not win that specific seat. However, she was elected to the Senate through a system called proportional representation. This means she got a seat based on the total votes her party received.
She served as a senator from September 1, 2018, to November 20, 2023. She was a member of the LXIV and LXV legislatures of the Mexican Congress. She worked with the National Action Party during her time as a senator.
Running for President
In mid-2023, Xóchitl Gálvez announced her plan to run for president of Mexico. She quickly became a popular choice among the opposition candidates. On August 30, 2023, she was confirmed as the presidential candidate for the "Broad Front for Mexico" coalition.
