Yanna McIntosh went to the University of Toronto to study. She also trained at the Institute for Advanced Theater Training at Harvard University. This is where she learned how to act for plays. After her own training, she even taught acting to students at the National Theatre School of Canada and Humber College.

In 2011, Yanna McIntosh starred as Mama Nadi in a play called Ruined. This play won a special award called the Pulitzer Prize. It was put on by Obsidian Theatre and Nightwood Theatre.
In 2014, she played Cleopatra in William Shakespeare's famous play Antony and Cleopatra at the Stratford Festival. This play was even filmed for TV! Yanna was nominated for a Canadian Screen Award for her amazing performance.
