Yasmeen Ghauri is a famous former fashion model from Canada. She was known for her unique way of walking on the runway. The famous model Tyra Banks even called it the "walk of life." Yasmeen was one of the first women from South Asia to be on the cover of Vogue magazine.
Early Life and Discovery
Yasmeen Ghauri was born in Montreal, Canada. Her mother was German, and her father was Pakistani. Yasmeen grew up as a Muslim. When she was 12, she went with her parents on the Islamic Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia. This is a special religious journey.
When she was 17, Yasmeen was working at a McDonald's restaurant. A hairdresser named Edward Zaccaria discovered her there. He thought she had a great look for modeling.
Even though her parents did not approve at first, Yasmeen really wanted to be a model. She started her career in cities like Milan and Paris. Then, in 1990, she moved to New York City. Fashion experts and brands quickly noticed her. Her arrival helped start what people in fashion called the "Canadian invasion." This meant many Canadian models became popular at that time.
