"You've Got a Friend in Me" is a famous song written and sung by Randy Newman. It became the main song for the 1995 Disney/Pixar animated movie Toy Story. This song is super important to the Toy Story movies. You'll hear parts of it throughout the whole series.
The song was nominated for two big awards: the Academy Award for Best Original Song and the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song. However, it didn't win either award. Another Disney song, "Colors of the Wind" from Pocahontas, won instead.
Many artists have sung "You've Got a Friend in Me." In the first Toy Story movie, Randy Newman sang it with Lyle Lovett. In Toy Story 2, you hear Tom Hanks (who voices Woody) sing a part. There's also a version by Robert Goulet and an instrumental one by Tom Scott. For Toy Story 3, the Gipsy Kings performed a Spanish version. The song even appeared as a remix in "Toy Story Toons".

The Song in Toy Story Movies
The song "You've Got a Friend in Me" plays at the very start of Toy Story, Toy Story 3, and Toy Story 4. In the first movie, it shows how important Woody and Andy are to each other. In the third and fourth movies, it highlights the bond between Andy and all his toys.
In Toy Story 3, the song is used in a clever way. The opening credits look like the first movie, but then the song suddenly stops. The words "As the years go by, Our friendship will never die" fade out, and you see that Andy's toys are now old and boxed up. Andy is 17 years old and doesn't play with them anymore.
In Toy Story 4, the song is heard during a montage. This shows Andy playing with Woody, then giving Woody to Bonnie when he's a teenager. It also shows Bonnie playing with Woody, but later starting to forget about him.
The song is also part of the story in two sequels. At the end of Toy Story 2, the character Wheezy sings it to the other toys. In the end credits of Toy Story 3, Buzz Lightyear and Jessie dance a pasodoble (a Spanish dance) to a Spanish version of the song. Jessie plays it to get Buzz to dance!
One of the most important times the song is used is in Toy Story 2. Woody watches an old TV show called Woody's Roundup. In the show, the puppet Woody sings "You've Got a Friend in Me" to a child. Seeing this helps Woody realize his main job as a toy: to be there for a child. The song was probably written for this TV show in the Toy Story world.
The version of the song from Woody's Roundup was sung by Tom Hanks. Wheezy's version was sung by Robert Goulet. The Spanish version, called "You've Got a Friend in Me (Para el Buzz Español)," was performed by the Gipsy Kings.
