Kiowa Roukema, known professionally as YoungKio, is a talented music producer and songwriter from the Netherlands. He was born on December 3, 1999. YoungKio became very famous for producing the hit song "Old Town Road" by American rapper Lil Nas X in 2019. After "Old Town Road" became popular, YoungKio signed deals with major music companies like Victor Victor Worldwide and Universal Music Publishing Group. He also joined a production group called Cash Gang. YoungKio has roots in Suriname.

Starting Out in Music
YoungKio began making music beats in 2016. He started using a special computer program called FL Studio. A friend gave him this program, which helped him learn how to create sounds. YoungKio was inspired by other producers like Wheezy and TM88. He felt he learned how to make beats very quickly.
Sharing His Beats Online
YoungKio started putting his "type beats" on YouTube. Type beats are instrumental tracks made in the style of popular artists. He would sell licenses for these beats for $30. This money helped him save up to buy a yearly membership to BeatStars. BeatStars is a website where producers can host and sell their music beats.
The Success of "Old Town Road"
In 2018, Lil Nas X bought a license for one of YoungKio's beats. This beat was used for Lil Nas X's song "Old Town Road". The beat included a sample from a 2008 song called "Ghost IV – 34" by Nine Inch Nails. The song "Old Town Road" was released on December 3, 2018. It quickly became very popular on the social media app TikTok.
Life After the Hit Song
Because "Old Town Road" was such a huge success, YoungKio was interviewed by famous magazines like Forbes and GQ. He also traveled to Los Angeles to work with other producers, including CashMoneyAP. YoungKio even appeared in the music video for "Old Town Road." Since then, he has produced beats for other well-known artists like Lil Pump and Rico Nasty.
