Yuliya Aleksandrovna Gushchina is a Russian sprinter. She was born on March 4, 1983. A sprinter is an athlete who runs short, fast races. She was very good at the 200-meter and 400-meter races.

Some of her past results were later changed. This happened because of rule violations. For example, her results from the 2012 Summer Olympics were disqualified.

Yuliya's Athletics Career

Yuliya Gushchina ran for Russia in many big competitions. She often competed in relay races. A relay race is where a team of runners passes a baton.

Olympic Games and Disqualifications

At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, Yuliya was part of the 4x100 meters relay team. Her team included Aleksandra Fedoriva, Yuliya Chermoshanskaya, and Yevgeniya Polyakova. They ran very fast and finished first in the final. They won what was thought to be a gold medal.

However, in 2016, this gold medal was taken away. This happened because one of her teammates had a rule violation. Later, in 2017, more of Yuliya's Olympic medals were disqualified. This included a medal from the 2012 London Olympics. This was also due to a rule violation by another teammate.

World Championships Races

In the 2009 World Championships in Athletics held in Berlin, Yuliya changed her focus. She competed in the 200-meter race. She made it to the semi-finals but did not reach the final race.

She also ran in the 4x100 meters relay at these championships. Her team finished fourth. This was a bit disappointing for them.

At the 2013 World Championships in Moscow, Yuliya's team competed in the 4x400 meters relay. They finished first in this race. However, this medal was also later disqualified due to a rule violation.
