Yushan, also called Mount Jade or Mount Yu, is the tallest mountain in Taiwan. It stands 3,952 meters (12,966 feet) high. This height is measured from the sea level. The mountain was once known as Mount Morrison. This name came from Robert Morrison, a missionary. Today, people usually call it Yushan or Mount Jade.

About Yushan
Yushan is a very special mountain. It is located in the middle of Taiwan. The mountain is part of the Yushan Range. This is a group of mountains that includes Yushan.
Why is it called Jade Mountain?
In winter, the top of Yushan often gets a lot of snow. This thick snow makes the mountain peak shine brightly. It looks like the precious stone called jade. That is why it is known as Mount Jade.
Yushan National Park
Yushan and the mountains around it are inside Yushan National Park. This park is a very large natural area. It has not been changed much by people. The park is full of forests. Many different types of animals live there. It is a great place to see nature.
First Climbers and Trails
The first person known to climb Yushan was a German explorer. His name was Karl Theodor Stöpel. He reached the top in 1898. Today, there are trails that climbers can use. During some winter months, the trails might have snow and ice. This makes the climb more challenging.
