Yves Bissouma (born 30 August 1996) is a professional footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder for the Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur. He was born in the Ivory Coast and plays for the Mali national team.

Club Career Highlights
Starting Out in Football
Yves Bissouma was born in Issia, Ivory Coast. He began his football journey at the Majestic SC academy in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. This academy worked closely with the JMG Academy in Bamako, Mali.
When he was 13, Bissouma was chosen to train at the academy in Mali. He spent five years there, playing alongside Adama Traoré, who would also become a Mali international player. At 18, he joined Real Bamako.
Playing for Lille
Bissouma's talent caught the eye of French scouts in February 2016 during the 2016 African Nations Championship. On 7 July 2016, just four months after joining Lille OSC from AS Real Bamako, he signed his first professional contract with the club. This contract was for three years.
Time at Brighton and Hove Albion
On 17 July 2018, Bissouma moved to the English team Brighton & Hove Albion. He signed a five-year contract. He played his first game for the Sussex club on the opening day of the 2018–19 Premier League season. This was a 2–0 loss away to Watford, where he came on as a substitute.
He made his first start in Brighton's third match of the season, a close defeat at Liverpool. On 5 January 2019, Bissouma scored his first goal for Brighton in his FA Cup debut. It was a 3–1 away win against Bournemouth in the third round.
He scored his first Premier League goal on the last day of the 2019–20 season. It was a long-range shot in a 2–1 away win against Burnley.
In Brighton's second league match of the 2020–21 season, a 3–0 away win over Newcastle, Bissouma received a red card. He scored his first goal of that season in a 4–2 away loss against Everton on 3 October. On 23 January 2021, in an FA Cup fourth round game, Bissouma scored a goal from 30 yards out. This helped Brighton win 2–1 at home against Blackpool.
On 21 August, in Brighton's second match of the 2021–22 season, he made his first assist for the team. It was for Neal Maupay in a 2–0 home win over Watford. Bissouma scored his first goal of the season on 5 February 2022. It was in a 3–1 away loss to Tottenham in the FA Cup fourth round.
After returning from a suspension, Bissouma scored a goal from 20 yards. This was Brighton's third goal in a 3–0 away win over Wolves. This win brought Brighton's total points to 44, breaking their previous Premier League record of 41. A week later, Bissouma played the entire match in a big 4–0 home win against Manchester United.
Joining Tottenham Hotspur
On 14 June 2022, Tottenham Hotspur agreed to a deal to sign Bissouma. Three days later, Tottenham officially announced his signing, and Bissouma signed a four-year contract. On 6 August, Bissouma made his debut for the club. He came on as a substitute in the second half of a 4–1 win over Southampton in the Premier League.
Bissouma started the 2023–24 season strongly. He was named Man of the Match in the first two games against Brentford and Manchester United.
On 24 August 2024, in his first game of the 2024–25 season, Bissouma scored his first goal for Tottenham. It was in a 4–0 home win over Everton. On 23 November 2024, in a 4–0 away win against Manchester City, Bissouma received a yellow card just 14 seconds into the game. This was for a foul on Phil Foden, making it the quickest yellow card in Premier League history.
International Career with Mali
Yves Bissouma was born in the Ivory Coast but moved to Mali at age 13 to become a professional footballer. He played for the Mali at the 2016 African Nations Championship. In the semi-final against the Ivory Coast, he came on as a substitute and scored the only goal of the game in the 89th minute. Mali reached the final but lost to DR Congo.
Bissouma was part of Mali's squad for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in January 2022. He played in Mali's first match on 13 January, coming on as a substitute in a 1–0 win over Tunisia. Bissouma played in all four of Mali's matches in the tournament. Mali was knocked out in the round of 16 after losing on penalties to Equatorial Guinea on 26 January.
