Zayed University (often called ZU) is a public university in the United Arab Emirates. It has two main campuses, one in Dubai and another in Abu Dhabi. It's a place where students can learn and grow, preparing for their future careers.

History of Zayed University

Zayed University was started in 1998. It was first created to offer special education for women. The university is named after Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who was the very first President of the United Arab Emirates. In 2008, Zayed University began to welcome male students too, making it a place for everyone.

University Accreditation and Rankings

University rankings
Global – Overall
QS World 701–710 (2024)
THE World 401–500 (2024)

Zayed University is officially recognized by the UAE Commission for Academic Accreditation. It is also recognized by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, which is an important group that checks if universities meet high standards.

In 2008, Zayed University first received its accreditation from the Middle States Commission. This means they checked that the university was doing a great job. The university was checked again in 2013 and again in 2024, and each time, they confirmed that Zayed University meets all the important standards. This renewed accreditation will last until the 2030-2031 school year.

The university was ranked 19th among Arab universities in the 2024 QS World University Rankings.

Colleges and Study Programs

Zayed University offers many different ways to learn. Students can choose from seventeen main study areas (called majors) and ten smaller study areas (called minors). They can also get ten different master's degrees.

Research and Discovery

Zayed University encourages its teachers and students to do research. This means they explore new ideas and try to find answers to important questions. The university helps them by offering training, special programs, and money to support their projects.

Research Support Programs

  • Research Incentive Funds (RIF): These funds help teachers with their research projects for one to two years. They are designed to help more research happen at Zayed University.
  • Research Clusters: Started in 2016, this program encourages teachers from different subjects to work together on projects.

Student Research Opportunities

The Undergraduate Research Scholars Program began in 2010. It helps and supports university students who want to do their own research. The program gives students guidance from teachers, workshops, and lessons over about two and a half years. By the end of the program, students are expected to create their own original research.

University Campuses

Abu Dhabi Campus

The Abu Dhabi campus of Zayed University was finished in August 2011. It was built to make space for more students as the university grew. This campus is located in Zayed City. It is a very large campus, covering about 77 hectares of land. The campus was designed by a famous architect named Hadi Teherani.
