A Look Back in Time
Zielebach was first mentioned in old records in the year 1320. Back then, it was known as Zielebach.
During the Middle Ages, a group of powerful nobles called the Counts of Kyburg owned the village. Later, before 1331, a person named Johann von Aarburg gained control over the land and its people. However, in 1341, he gave the village and all its rights to St. Urban's Abbey, which was a monastery.
The city of Bern slowly gained power in the village. By 1514, Bern officially made Zielebach part of its bailiwick (an area governed by a local official) called Landshut. Zielebach stayed part of this area until 1803. At that time, the old bailiwicks were ended, and Zielebach became part of a new district called Fraubrunnen.
In the 1800s, an iron factory opened in the nearby village of Gerlafingen. In 1813, a canal was built to connect the towns. This canal helped Zielebach support the factory in Gerlafingen.
