Wiler bei Utzenstorf was first mentioned in old records around the years 1261–1263. Back then, it was called Wilere.

The village was originally part of a larger area controlled by the Counts of Kyburg, specifically the district of Utzenstorf. It also belonged to the same local court and church area as Utzenstorf. In 1514, the city of Bern bought the entire district. Under Bern's rule, Wiler became part of a special administrative area called a bailiwick, which was centered at Landshut Castle in Utzenstorf. In 1803, this old system changed, and Wiler became part of the new Fraubrunnen District.

During the 1800s, many farmers in Wiler changed what they grew. Instead of just growing food, they started raising dairy cows to produce milk. A group of dairy farmers even started a cooperative in 1850, and a local dairy building was built in 1859. New roads helped the town grow. A road connecting Burgdorf to Solothurn was built through Wiler in 1908. Later, a train station for the Solothurn-Burgdorf-Thun Railway opened in 1929. These better roads and the train made it easier for factories to come to Wiler. This helped the village change from a farming community into a place with industries and where people lived but traveled to work in other towns.

The first school for Wiler and the nearby village of Zielebach opened in 1728. More recently, in 2010, the schools from Wiler, Utzenstorf, Bätterkinden, and Zielebach joined together to form a larger school district called Untere Emme.
