Zou Kai (Chinese: 邹凯; pinyin: Zōu Kǎi) is a famous Chinese gymnast. He was born on February 25, 1988, in Luzhou, Sichuan. Zou Kai is known for his amazing skills on the floor exercise and the horizontal bar.
He has won many big awards. Zou Kai earned five gold medals at the Olympic Games. He also won five gold medals at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. These wins make him one of the most successful gymnasts from China.
Zou Kai first became famous at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. There, he won three gold medals. This amazing start led to him being nominated for a special sports award in 2009. He continued his success at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, where he won two more gold medals.
As of 2025, Zou Kai holds a special record. His five Olympic gold medals and one bronze medal tie him for the second most gold medals won by any Chinese athlete in Olympic history. He is also tied for the third most total medals won by a Chinese athlete.

Zou Kai's Gymnastics Journey
Early World Championships Success
Zou Kai started his international career at the 2006 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Aarhus. He helped the Chinese team win a gold medal. He also placed sixth in the individual floor exercise final.
At the 2007 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Stuttgart, he had similar results. His team won gold again, and he finished sixth on the floor.
Winning at the Asian Games
Zou Kai also competed in the 2006 Asian Games held in Doha. He won a gold medal for his floor exercise routine. He also earned a silver medal on the horizontal bar. Plus, he was part of the Chinese team that won gold.
Olympic Debut in Beijing (2008)
Zou Kai made his first Olympic appearance at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. He helped his team win a gold medal. He then surprised many by winning individual gold medals on both the floor exercise and the horizontal bar. He scored very high marks in both events.
He became the second Chinese Olympian to win three gold medals at one Olympic Games. The first was Li Ning in 1984. Zou Kai was the most successful Chinese athlete at the Beijing Olympics, winning the most gold medals.
World Championships in London (2009)
At the 2009 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in London, Zou Kai continued his winning streak. He won a gold medal in the individual horizontal bar event. He also earned a silver medal in the floor exercise.
Return to World Championships (2011)
Zou Kai was not on the Chinese team for the 2010 World Championships or the 2010 Asian Games. This was because he needed to improve on other gymnastics equipment. But he came back strong at the 2011 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Tokyo. He won two gold medals and one silver medal, just like he did in 2009.
London Olympics (2012) Achievements
At the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, Zou Kai helped his team win another gold medal. He then successfully defended his Olympic title in the floor exercise, winning gold again. He was only the second gymnast to win the men's floor exercise twice in a row.
He tried to defend his horizontal bar title but finished with a bronze medal instead. He was very close to winning gold again.
With his five Olympic gold medals, Zou Kai holds the record for the most golds won by any Chinese athlete in Olympic history. Adding his bronze medal, he tied the record for the most total medals, with six.
Asian Games in Incheon (2014)
Zou Kai competed in the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon. He won gold medals in both the floor exercise and horizontal bar individual events. He also helped the Chinese team win a bronze medal.
Helping Others
Zou Kai is from Sichuan, China. In 2008, after a big earthquake hit Sichuan, he decided to help. He auctioned off one of his Olympic gold medals. He donated all the money to help with the relief efforts.
He chose the gold medal he won for his floor exercise routine from the 2008 Beijing Olympics. This medal was special to him because only two other Chinese gymnasts had ever won it before him.
