Łukasz Tomasz Żygadło (born August 2, 1979) is a famous Polish former professional volleyball player. He is now the sporting director for the Polish PlusLiga team, Norwid Częstochowa. Łukasz was a key player for the Poland national team from 1998 to 2014. He played in 247 matches for his country!

He took part in the 2012 Olympic Games. He also won the 2012 World League and a silver medal at the 2006 World Championship. Łukasz is also known for winning many Champions League and Club World Championship titles with Trentino Volley.

About Łukasz Żygadło

Łukasz Żygadło was born in Sulechów, a town in Poland. He went to a special School of Sports Championship in Rzeszów. He later earned a master's degree in Management and Marketing. This was from the Częstochowa University of Technology.

He is married to Agnieszka. He is also an honorary resident of Trentino, a region in Italy. Łukasz can speak several languages. These include Polish, Italian, English, and Russian.

Łukasz's Volleyball Journey

Starting His Club Career

Łukasz began his volleyball journey at a young age. He started playing for a club called Orion Sulechów. When he was just 15, he moved to AZS Częstochowa. After finishing his studies, he continued playing for the club in Częstochowa.

From 1997 to 2001, he achieved great success in Poland. He won gold, silver, and bronze medals in the Polish Championship. He also won the Polish Cup in 1998. After this, he played for other Polish clubs. These included Nordea Czarni Radom and Skra Bełchatów. In the 2003/2004 season, he won another Polish Cup with Polska Energia Sosnowiec.

Playing Abroad

In 2004, Łukasz moved to Greece to play for Panathinaikos. With this team, he won a bronze medal in the Greek Championship. The next season, 2005/2006, he played for Halkbank Ankara in Turkey. There, he won a bronze medal in the Turkish Championship. He was even named the best setter in the Turkish League in 2006. A setter is a key player in volleyball. They are responsible for setting the ball for attackers to spike.

After his time in Turkey, he played for Polish club ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle. He also played for Russian club Dinamo Kaliningrad.

Success with Trentino Volley

In 2008, Łukasz joined the Italian club Itas Diatec Trentino. He played there for four successful seasons. During this time, he won the gold medal at the CEV Champions League three times! These wins were in 2008/2009, 2009/2010, and 2010/2011. He also won a bronze medal in 2012. He was recognized as the best setter in the Champions League 2010.

He also helped Trentino win three gold medals in the FIVB Club World Championship. These were in 2009, 2010, and 2011. With Trentino, he won three silver medals and one gold medal in the Italian Championship. He also won two Italian Cups.

Return to Russia and Injury

After his amazing time in Italy, Łukasz moved to the Russian League. He played for Fakel Novy Urengoy for one season (2012/2013). Then, he joined another Russian club, Zenit Kazan. He signed a two-year contract there.

Unfortunately, on October 6, 2013, he got injured during training. He broke his foot, which needed two surgeries. This injury meant he missed the entire 2013/2014 season. After his recovery, Łukasz left Zenit Kazan.

Back to Trentino and Iran

After two seasons in Russia, Łukasz decided to return to Trentino Volley. He was very happy to be back with his former team. On May 13, 2015, he helped Trentino Volley win the Italian Championship title.

In July 2015, he moved to Iran. He signed with a new club called Sarmayeh Bank Tehran. On March 14, 2016, his team won the Iranian Championship. Łukasz was considered one of the best players in the Iranian League that season. He continued his success, winning a second Iranian Championship in the 2016-2017 season. He also won the Asian Club Championship for the second time and received the Best Setter Award.

National Team Highlights

Łukasz first played for the Polish national team in 2000. He played in important tournaments like the World League and World Championships. On December 3, 2006, he won a silver medal with the national team at the World Championship 2006 in Japan.

He briefly left the national team in 2010. However, he returned on March 31, 2011, when coach Andrea Anastasi called him back. In 2011, he won three more medals with Poland. These included a silver at the World Cup. He also won two bronze medals at the World League and the European Championship.

He achieved a gold medal at the World League 2012 in Sofia, Bulgaria. Even after his injury in 2013/2014, Polish coach Antiga still selected him for the national team in 2014.
