Team History

Trofei Trentino Volley
First trophies of Trentino Club

Trentino Volley was started on May 23, 2000. Just two days later, they bought the right to play in Serie A1. This is Italy's top volleyball division. Their first Serie A1 match was on October 15, 2000, against Maxicono Parma. They lost that game 3–0.

The first home game for Trentino Volley was on October 22, 2000, against Padova. Trentino Volley won that exciting match 3–2. In their first two seasons, the team finished 10th and 9th in the league.

Over the years, Trentino Volley brought in many talented players. These included Lorenzo Bernardi and Andrea Sartoretti. In 2007, they focused on building a young, skilled team. They signed players like Nikola Grbić from Serbia, Vladimir Nikolov and Matey Kaziyski from Bulgaria, and Emanuele Birarelli from Italy.

This new strategy worked! In the 2007-2008 season, Itas Trentino Diatec finished first in the regular season. On May 7, 2008, Trentino Volley won their first national championship title. They beat Piacenza 3–0. This win also gave them a spot in the CEV Champions League for the 2008–2009 season.

In the 2009 CEV Champions League, Trento went undefeated in the group stages. They finished first in Group E. On April 5, 2009, in Prague, Trento won the final. They defeated Iraklis Thessaloniki 3–1.

Later in 2009, the team traveled to Doha, Qatar, for the FIVB Men's Club World Volleyball Championship. On November 8, Trentino Betclic won the final 3–0 against Skra Bełchatów from Poland. They became the FIVB Club World Champion. In 2010, they won the Italian Cup. They then successfully defended their Champions League title. They won 3–0 against Dynamo Moscow.

Trentino Volley decided to retire the number 1 jersey for Matey Kaziyski. This was to honor all the great things he helped the team achieve. The President of Trentino Volley, Bruno Da Re, said that no other player would use that number. However, Matey Kaziyski could use it again if he ever returned to play for the team.
