Playing for Clubs

Nikola Grbić started his club career in 1994 with Gabeca Montichiari in Italy. He played for eight different Italian teams over 13 years. During this time, he helped his teams win eight league titles. He won two Italian Championship titles, one with Trentino in 2008 and another with Cuneo in 2010. He also won a Russian Championship title with Zenit Kazan in 2014. Nikola also won two important European club titles, the CEV Euro Champions League, in 2000 and 2009.

Playing for His Country

Nikola Grbić joined his country's senior national team in 1991 when he was just 18 years old. For a few years (1992–1994), he couldn't play in international games because of a worldwide ban on his country.

When he returned, his team, Yugoslavia, won a bronze medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. In 1997, Nikola was named the Best Setter at the European Championship, where Yugoslavia won a silver medal. In 1998, he led his team to a silver medal at the FIVB World Championship in Japan.

From 1999 to 2010, Nikola was the captain of his national team. He led Yugoslavia to a gold medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. They won the final match against Russia in a very strong performance. Later, he helped Serbia win a bronze medal at the 2010 FIVB World Championship in Italy. He was also named the Best Setter of that tournament.

Becoming a Coach

In May 2014, Nikola Grbić started his coaching career with the Italian club Sir Safety Perugia. On February 3, 2015, he became the new head coach of the Serbia men's national volleyball team.

Nikola led Serbia to a silver medal at the 2015 FIVB World League. The next year, in 2016, he guided Serbia to their first-ever gold medal at the 2016 FIVB World League. This was a huge win because Serbia had lost in the finals five times before.
