Nikola Grbić: A Player's Journey

Playing for Clubs

Nikola Grbić started playing for Gabeca Montichiari in 1994. This began a long 13-year career where he played for eight different teams in Italy. During this time, he helped his teams win eight league titles. He also won two Championship titles in Italy and one in Russia. Nikola also achieved two CEV Euro Champions League titles.

Playing for His Country

Grbić joined the senior national team in 1991 when he was just 18 years old. He couldn't play for a few years (1992–1994) because of an international ban.

When he returned, he helped Yugoslavia win a bronze medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. In 1997, he was named the Best Setter at the European Championship, where Yugoslavia won a silver medal. He also led Yugoslavia to a silver medal at the FIVB World Championship in Japan in 1998.

Nikola was the captain of his national team from 1999 to 2010. He led Yugoslavia to a gold medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. They won against Russia in a very strong three-set match. Later, he helped Serbia win a bronze medal at the 2010 FIVB World Championship in Italy. He was named the Best Setter of that tournament.

Nikola Grbić: A Coach's Journey

In May 2014, Nikola Grbić became the head coach for the Italian club Sir Safety Perugia. On February 3, 2015, he was announced as the new head coach for the Serbia men's national volleyball team.

Grbić led Serbia to a silver medal at the 2015 FIVB World League. The next year, he guided Serbia to a gold medal at the 2016 FIVB World League. This was a huge win because Serbia had lost in the World League final five times before. Finally, after many silver and bronze medals, they won the gold!
