The boys' singles tournament at the 2010 US Open was an exciting tennis competition for young male players. It began on Sunday, September 5, 2010.

The player who won the year before, Bernard Tomic, did not play in this tournament. Even though he was still young enough, he had decided to stop playing in junior (youth) tournaments in 2010.

This year, an American player named Jack Sock won the tournament! He was given a special entry, called a wildcard, to play in the main competition. In the final match, Jack Sock beat his fellow American player, Denis Kudla, who was ranked as the tenth best player in the tournament.

Top Players: What are Seeds?

In tennis tournaments, the best players are often "seeded." This means they are given a special ranking (like a number) to make sure they don't play against each other too early in the competition. It helps spread out the strongest players.

Here are the top players (seeds) in the 2010 US Open boys' singles tournament:

  • Colombia Juan Sebastián Gómez (lost in the first round)
  • Hungary Márton Fucsovics (reached the semifinals)
  • Brazil Tiago Fernandes (reached the third round)
  • Czech Republic Jiří Veselý (reached the quarterfinals)
  • Bosnia and Herzegovina Damir Džumhur (reached the third round)
  • Australia Jason Kubler (lost in the first round)
  • Peru Duilio Beretta (lost in the second round, had to stop playing because of injury)
  • Argentina Agustín Velotti (reached the semifinals)
  • Australia James Duckworth (lost in the first round)
  • United States Denis Kudla (reached the final)
  • Argentina Renzo Olivo (lost in the first round)
  • Hungary Máté Zsiga (lost in the first round)
  • Russia Victor Baluda (reached the quarterfinals)
  • Austria Dominic Thiem (lost in the first round)
  • Ecuador Roberto Quiroz (lost in the first round)
  • United States Mitchell Frank (reached the third round)

How Jack Sock Won the Tournament

Jack Sock, who was a wildcard entry, played incredibly well throughout the tournament. He faced many tough opponents on his way to the final.

In the quarterfinals, Jack Sock played against Victor Baluda from Russia, who was the 13th seed. Jack won that match with a score of 6–3, 7–67. This win moved him into the semifinals.

In the semifinals, Jack Sock met Márton Fucsovics from Hungary, who was the 2nd seed in the tournament. Jack continued his strong performance, winning 6–3, 6–4, which earned him a spot in the championship final!

The Final Match

The final match was an all-American showdown between Jack Sock and Denis Kudla. Denis Kudla was the 10th seed and had also played very well to reach the final.

The match was exciting and went for three sets:

  • Denis Kudla won the first set 6–3.
  • Jack Sock fought back and won the second set 6–2.
  • Jack Sock then won the deciding third set 6–2.

This meant that Jack Sock became the champion of the 2010 US Open boys' singles tournament! It was a fantastic win for him, especially since he entered the tournament as a wildcard.
