How Teams Qualified for the Tournaments
These tournaments were set up to decide the final teams for the Olympics. Only twelve teams could take part in these qualification events. Here is how they were chosen:
- The top six teams from the World Championship who had not already qualified for the Olympics got a spot.
- Then, the best-ranked teams from each continent at the World Championship also earned places. Europe, being the highest-ranked continent, got two extra spots. Africa, Asia, and the Americas each received one spot.
- There was also a chance for a team from Oceania if they finished high enough at the World Championship. However, no team from Oceania met this rule. So, the second-ranked continent (Africa) received an additional spot instead.
- Teams that had already qualified for the Olympics through other ways were not counted for these spots. The list was adjusted to make sure new teams got a chance.
- The twelve chosen teams were then split into three groups of four teams. The best two teams from each group went on to the 2024 Olympic Games.
The countries that hosted these exciting tournaments were announced on February 2, 2024.
