Early Life and Influences
Jacquavius Smith was born on May 1, 2000. He has a mix of Bahamian, Haitian, and African American family roots. He grew up in West Orlando, Florida, in an area called Mercy Drive. When he was younger, he dreamed of becoming a football player. However, this dream changed due to some challenges he faced as a teenager. He has said that T-Pain and Lil Wayne are some of his biggest musical inspirations. His stage name, 9lokkNine, came from his friends. They called him "Glock" because he was very determined and hardworking.
Music Career
Smith started his music journey by releasing his first extended play (EP) called Kold Face Kold Case. It had nine songs and came out on January 2, 2018. An EP is like a mini-album, with fewer songs than a full album. On April 17, 2018, he released his first mixtape, Bloodshells Revenge, which had 18 songs. A mixtape is a collection of songs, often released for free or promotion.
On May 8, 2018, Smith released a music video for his song "I Don't Need No Help". Later that year, on July 23, 2018, he released another mixtape called Loyalty Kill Love with 17 tracks. A big moment for him happened on August 3, 2018. He signed a contract with Birdman's Cash Money Records, which is part of Republic Records. This contract was reportedly worth US$2 million. On December 19, 2018, he released an 11-track mixtape titled Lil Glokk That Stole Khristmas. In April 2019, Smith released his song "Party Pooper".
In August 2019, his song "223's" became very popular. It was released as a single by 300 Entertainment and featured YNW Melly. The song was originally on Smith's Lil Glokk That Stole Khristmas mixtape. "223's" became a hit on the video app TikTok. Many popular creators used the song for their dance videos. Because of this, "223's" reached number 34 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It also earned a double platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). This means it sold over two million copies.
On October 25, 2019, Smith released his 16-track mixtape Mind of Destruction. This was his first official commercial release with Cash Money and Republic Records. On February 5, 2020, he released his song "Moods". Smith also performed at the 2018 Rolling Loud Festival in Miami, Florida, on May 13, 2018.
