Autoroutes of France

The A1 is a very important road in France. It's called an autoroute, which is like a big motorway where cars can drive fast without stopping. It's known as the "Autoroute du Nord" (Motorway of the North). This road is super busy, with over 180,000 vehicles using it every single day! A lot of these are big lorries carrying goods.

The A1 connects two major French cities: Paris, the capital, and Lille in the north. It's about 211 kilometers (131 miles) long. This makes it a key link between Paris and countries like Belgium and the Netherlands. The A1 also passes right next to Charles de Gaulle Airport, one of the busiest airports in the world.

Connecting Roads and Places

The A1 autoroute has many exits and junctions along its path. These connections help drivers reach different towns and other major roads. For example, near Paris, the A1 connects to the Boulevard Périphérique, which is a ring road around the city.

It also links up with other important autoroutes. The A26 autoroute joins the A1 near Arras. This connection is very useful because it helps people travel to Calais and then on to England by ferry or through the Channel Tunnel.

Along the A1, you can find exits for interesting places. For instance, there's an exit for Parc Astérix, a popular theme park. The road also provides access to major cities like Amiens, Saint-Quentin, and Arras. You'll also find service areas along the way where drivers can stop for a break, food, or fuel.
