The AFC East is part of the American Football Conference (AFC) in the NFL. The NFL is the biggest professional football league in the United States. Divisions help organize the many teams in the league. Teams in the same division play each other twice every season. This makes for exciting games and strong rivalries!

The Four Teams of the AFC East

There are four well-known teams that make up the AFC East. Each team has its own history and fan base.

New England Patriots

The New England Patriots play their home games near Boston, Massachusetts. They are known for their blue, red, and white colors. The Patriots have won many championships, especially in the early 2000s. They have a very dedicated fan base.

Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills are based in Orchard Park, New York, near Buffalo. Their team colors are blue, red, and white. The Bills are famous for their passionate fans. They have a long history in the league.

New York Jets

The New York Jets play their games in East Rutherford, New Jersey. They share a stadium with another NFL team. The Jets wear green and white uniforms. They have been a part of the NFL for many years.

Miami Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins are located in Miami Gardens, Florida. Their team colors are aqua, orange, and white. The Dolphins are known for their warm weather home games. They have a unique history, including an undefeated season.

History of the Division

The AFC East has a long and interesting history. It was originally formed in 1960 as the Eastern Division of the American Football League (AFL). The AFL was a separate league before it merged with the NFL in 1970. When the leagues merged, the Eastern Division became the AFC East. The teams in the division have changed a little over the years. However, the current four teams have been together for a long time. This makes their rivalries even stronger.

Why Divisions Matter

Divisions are very important in the NFL. Teams play each other within their division more often than other teams. This creates a special kind of competition.
