Abercorn is a small rural town and locality in the North Burnett Region, Queensland, Australia. It's a quiet place, surrounded by nature. In 2021, the locality of Abercorn had a population of 41 people.

Exploring Abercorn's Surroundings
Abercorn is located right next to the Burnett River, which forms its eastern border. A smaller stream called Three Moon Creek also flows through the area and into the Burnett River. The Burnett Highway passes through the locality. However, you can't get to the town directly from the highway. To reach Abercorn, you need to turn off the highway at a place called Cynthia onto Wuruma Dam Road. There's also a state forest in the northern part of Abercorn, which is a protected area of trees.
A Look Back at Abercorn's History
Abercorn got its name from its railway station. The Queensland Railway Department named it on June 19, 1925. It might have been named after a famous racehorse called Abercorn. Another idea is that it was named after Abercorn Homestead, to honor its owner, Robert David Hamilton.
Over the years, several schools opened and closed in the area:
- Abercorn State School first opened its doors on May 3, 1927. In 1931, an older school building was moved there from Wilson Valley State School.
- Langley Flat Provisional School started on September 5, 1927. It became Langley Flat State School in 1929 but closed on January 28, 1947.
- A post office opened in Abercorn around February 1928. It served the community until it closed on June 11, 1986.
- Goomaran Creek Provisional School opened on April 29, 1931. It became Goomaran Creek State School in 1932 but closed on May 9, 1948.
- Glen Loch State School opened on August 27, 1931, and closed in 1944. It was located on the Burnett Highway.
