The Acadie–Bathurst Titan is a Canadian junior ice hockey team. They play in the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). Their home city is Bathurst, New Brunswick.

The team is part of the Maritimes Division. They play their games at the K. C. Irving Regional Centre. The Titan won the 2018 Memorial Cup, which is a very important championship. They have also won the President's Cup twice. These wins happened in 1999 and 2018.

History of the Team

The team started in 1969–70 as the Rosemont National. In 1971, they moved from Rosemont to Laval. There, they became the Laval National. Later, they were known as the Laval Voisins.

In 1985, the team changed its name to the Laval Titan. Then, in 1994, they became the Laval Titan Collège Français. This happened after they joined with another team. Finally, in 1998, the team moved to Bathurst. The word "Acadie" in their name refers to the area around Bathurst. Many Acadian people live there.

The team has won five President's Cups in total. One of these wins was in 1999, after they moved to Bathurst. That year, they played in the Memorial Cup. But they didn't win any games in the first round.

Many famous players have been part of this team. One of the most well-known is Mario Lemieux. He was drafted into the National Hockey League (NHL) in 1984. Lemieux played for the team when it was in Laval. Other famous players include Mike Bossy, Gino Odjick, and Vincent Damphousse. From the Bathurst team, notable NHL players include Patrice Bergeron, François Beauchemin, Bruno Gervais, and Roberto Luongo.

In the 1999–2000 season, something special happened. Charline Labonté, a 17-year-old goalie from Quebec, was drafted by the QMJHL team. She was the first female player ever drafted by a QMJHL team. She played for the Titan for parts of two seasons.

In 2018, the team achieved a huge victory. They won their first Memorial Cup championship. They beat the Regina Pats in the final game. Their coach at the time was Mario Pouliot.

The Titan play in the smallest city in the entire Canadian Hockey League. Bathurst has about 13,424 people. This is even smaller than Swift Current, Saskatchewan, which is home to another junior hockey team. After winning the Memorial Cup, coach Mario Pouliot said it was a "huge accomplishment" for such a small market team.

Team Ownership

On February 7, 2009, the Titan team was given more time to apply for a move. This was by the QMJHL Board of Governors. The owner, Morrissette, decided to sell the team to his children. But at the end of the 2009–10 season, he bought the team back. He owned it until April 2013. Then, some local investors bought the team. One of these investors was NHL player Sean Couturier.
