Adel (pronounced like "AY-del") is a city in Cook County, Georgia, United States. It is the main town, or "county seat," of Cook County. Adel is located about 52 miles (84 km) southeast of Albany. In 2020, about 5,571 people lived in Adel.

History of Adel
Adel wasn't always called Adel! Its first name was Puddleville. The city's first postmaster, Joel "Uncle Jack" Parrish, wanted a new name. People believe he saw the name "Philadelphia" on a bag. He then took out the first and last four letters to create the name Adel.
The Georgia Southern and Florida Railway came to Adel in the 1880s. This helped the town grow. Adel officially became a town in 1889.
Tornadoes in Adel
Adel has experienced powerful storms. On January 22, 2017, a strong tornado hit the southern part of Adel. It caused a lot of damage, especially to a mobile home park called Sunshine Acres. Many homes were destroyed, and some residents lost their lives. The tornado affected many people in the area.
Another tornado, though not as strong, moved through the city on April 23, 2020. On January 22, 2023, a strong tornado also caused major damage on the north side of town. These events remind us that it's important to be prepared for severe weather.
Geography of Adel
Adel is located in the southern part of Georgia. It is just south of the center of Cook County. The city is next to Sparks on its northern side.
Major roads pass through Adel. U.S. Route 41 goes right through the middle of town. Interstate 75 runs along the western side of the city. You can get into Adel from Exit 39 on Interstate 75.
Valdosta is about 26 miles (42 km) south of Adel. Tifton is about 23 miles (37 km) north.
The city covers a total area of about 9.46 square miles (24.5 square kilometers). Most of this area is land. A small part, about 0.16 square miles (0.42 square kilometers), is water.

Adel has a warm and humid climate. This means it has relatively high temperatures. Rain is spread out evenly throughout the year. According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Adel has a humid subtropical climate. This type of climate is common in the southeastern United States.
